The TV quiz Mastermind was at the peak of its first flush of popularity in 1977. So they had one at our school. My specialist subject here is either “volcanoes” or “civil aircraft” (the following year it was “contemporary pop music” and I was deservedly knocked out in the first round for failing to answer correctly a question about Blondie). The studio audience looks like it’s having the time of its life. Photograph by Michael Floyd, who marks the back of the print “substandard”, which is odd because as far as I remember we did all have luminous eyes. It was that kind of school.
